2009-2010 Grading Policy

Product Grades

All teachers will adhere to the following product grade weights:

EOCT/Final Exam                                                                 15%

Benchmark/Mid-term/Post Exams                                      10%

Class I Major Assessments                                                    40%

Class II Minor Assessments                                                  35%

Class I and Class II assessments are true assessments of learning.  These assessments are conducted after students have been engaged in instruction and have had ample opportunity to master content.  These assessments are conducted under the supervision of the teacher.

As a general rule, all chapter/unit exams will be counted as Class I Major Grades.  Teacher discretion will be used to determine the classification of other true assessments of learning.

Minimal Assessments Each Grading Period

All teachers will provide students with a minimum number of Class I Major and Class II Minor assessments each 9-Week grading period as follows:

Class I Major Assessments     3

Class II Minor Assessments   9

Grades and Attendance will be updated and posted on Infinite Campus at least once each week.

Process Grade Points

Process point opportunities include all activities/assignments deemed by the teacher to contribute to the overall attainment of content.  Process point records must be maintained and point status must be available to stakeholders at all times.

Process Grade Opportunities (assignments/activities not done in the classroom) include, but are not limited to:

Home Work – Graded/Un-graded

Home Projects/Reports

Punctuality

Attendance

Class Participation

Discipline

Cooperative Learning Group Contribution

Lab Group Contribution

Process Grade Points

Process Grade Opportunities (assignments/activities not done in the classroom) include, but are not limited to: Home Work – Graded/Un-graded, Home Projects/Reports, Punctuality, Attendance, Class Participation, Discipline, Cooperative Learning Group Contribution, Lab Group Contribution, etc. All process assignments will be assessed on a scale of 0 to 100 points (0% to 100%). Process points will be added to the corresponding Class I (Major Assessment) grade for each unit of instruction according to the following scale:

    90+%          5 Process Point                60+%         2 Process Points

    80+%          4 Process Points              50+%         1 Process Points

    70+%          3 Process Points             <50%           0 Process Points

Mixed Numeral Grades

Due to our policy of reporting grades in whole numbers, any grade including a portion of a point will be rounded to the next whole number.  Example 74.3 will be rounded to 75.  (Technology is working toward having Infinite Campus do this automatically.)

Final Grades Ending with 9

Due to the high stakes nature of grades, THS teachers are encouraged to give no student a final grade ending in 9.  Teachers are encouraged to round up a final grade ending in 9.

If after careful analysis of the 9-ending grade, the teacher still assigns the 9-ending grade, the teacher is to notify the principal of the decision using the Final Grade Principal Notification form.
